The LAFA Project

Enhancing Longevity and Fertility

An in-depth exploration of cutting-edge research and interventions aimed at improving human lifespan and reproductive capacity.

THE LAFA PROJECT

PURPOSE OF LAFA

The LAFA project aims to uncover and analyze the factors impacting fertility and longevity by studying two contrasting Italian regions: the ‘Land of Fire,’ characterized by high pollution levels, and Cilento, a UNESCO-recognized area and Mediterranean Diet Emblematic Community. By comparing these two areas, the project aims to create a reliable data-driven predictive algorithm to guide stakeholders and policymakers in improving health outcomes.

We aim to unlock new pathways for enhancing human longevity and fertility, ultimately fostering a healthier and more sustainable future for all.

THE LAFA PROJECT

PROJECT LOCATIONS

Recognized as a UNESCO Emblematic Community of the Mediterranean Diet, Pollica is a global reference point for promoting, safeguarding, and disseminating this invaluable intangible heritage. Home to the "Angelo Vassallo" Mediterranean Diet Study Center and the Living Museum of the Mediterranean Diet, Pollica embodies a deep connection to this cultural legacy. This connection is rooted in a long tradition of research, notably the groundbreaking studies of Ancel and Margaret Keys, who began their work on the local centenarian population in Pollica. Their research unveiled the significant role of the Mediterranean diet in promoting longevity and well-being.

Paideia Campus is an innovative experimental center inspired by integral ecology. Dedicated to enhancing the natural heritage of the Mediterranean ecosystem, the project promotes and celebrates the Mediterranean Diet as a model for a healthy lifestyle. Through activities and initiatives for young people, training programs for educators, and workshops for start-ups, Paideia Campus strives to inspire and empower individuals to embrace sustainable living.
